YouTube hits 1.5B Members
YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki announced during a presentation at VidCon 2017 that the platform now has 1.5 Billion—yes, with a B—members logged in via Google that consume at least an hour of video content every day.
“When we compare that [metric] to TV, people — in some countries like the U.S. — watch up to four hours per day, so we think there’s lots of room to get people to watch even more YouTube.”
Although as of now, the primary mode of watching is on mobile, she also reportedly said that television is their fastest growing medium of consumption (over 90 percent a year), which is where YouTube is now setting its sights. On top of this, their new YouTube TV Service will gain a lot more traction as customers look for alternatives to expensive traditional cable providers.
This also means a golden opportunity for advertisers on the platform, who have never had so much incentive to purchase video ads.
